2017 Review

Well 2017, it has been real. I set some goals for myself, and I accomplished them! I cannot wait to see what 2018 brings, and I'm having a difficult time thinking of ways to challenge myself in the new year, but I have a few ideas to get the ball rolling. But first lets look at what I got done in 2017....

I did my first Whole30

This was a last minute decision in 2017. My goal was to get my shit together when it came to food. I was lost and didn't know what was making me feel so crumby, and then I found Whole30. Basically stripping your diet to only whole/nutrient dense foods and then adding things back after thirty days was what I needed to see how my diet was affecting my mood and skin. I always knew what you ate was reflected on your face, but I didn't know how good eating avocados could make you feel! It has changed me so much I have even considered going back to school for nutrition, but more on that later.

I started this blog

Like I mentioned before, I used to work in beauty, and loved it. But I noticed people had a lot of questions, and didn't know where to start when it came to taking care of their skin. I have a lot of training under my belt in this department, and I wanted to share the knowledge with anyone who wanted it. And so far the response has been amazing. You guys have questions! And I made this blog as a place to get those questions answered. I'm so happy I stopped thinking about what others might think if I started a blog (yeah I'm one of those people that says "link in bio" now, whatevs) and just went for it. If you're thinking about starting something new, just try it, don't wait for it to be perfect!

I went to New York!

I have never taken a vacation with friends, and I finally did this year! I never blogged about it, oops, but I went with a couple friends to the Create & Cultivate conference and I got to witness my friend buy her first Louis Vuitton bag. We ate a shit ton of food (black ice cream and a milkshake the size of my dog) and saw The Book of Mormon, which was amazing. The amount of skincare there is unreal, I spent way too much money and it was worth every penny. The picture on this post is of me in NY if you couldn't tell. It is the only photo I have of just me, isn't that pathetic? I hate getting my picture taken.

I quit my job

This was my only goal I set for myself in 2017. I used to work in beauty/retail environment (50 points to whoever can guess where) and I loved it. I got to talk about skincare all day and travel to meet others who were just as obsessed with skincare, what a dream! However, the hours killed me, and I was commuting an hour to get to work and that really got to me mentally and physically. I knew that I wanted to continue with this blog since people respond so well to it, and I needed a better schedule to make that happen. As the year progressed I didn't think I would actually quit but a new position eventually presented itself, just as I had wanted.

I'm moving!

Okay so I'm not moving until February, but part of quitting my job goal was to live closer to where I worked, commuting for two hours is not fun! Now I have a set work schedule, and I get to live closer, which means less time driving, and more time for blogging!

I didn't set a ton of goals for myself in 2017, but I prefer to focus on a few things that I know I can make happen, instead of setting a million goals that will overwhelm me and I will ultimately never do.

Now let's take a look at what's going on in 2018.

Probably another Whole30

There really is no better way to start the year than with a Whole30. It sets the stage for the rest of the year and ever since I did one last January I don't eat anything without thinking about how it would affect my day. This time around I'll probably be more vocal about it on social media, I was very private about it the first time but I think it would be fun to share things that I eat in a day, since that does take a part in how my skin looks.

Do something different

I love this blog, and have no intention of stopping, but I want to shake it up a little! Since food is a huge part of my life that I don't share, I thought about incorporating that a little. Food plays a huge part in how you look, and this is a beauty blog after all. There are things I have placed in my diet that have actually made my skin firmer and brighter, which is crazy! If there is anything you want to see on this blog, please let me know. Any questions at all, shoot 'em over!

Maybe branch out a little

Again, I love this blog, but I really only promote it on Instagram. I do have a Facebook page that needs some love, and I'm actually on Pinterest quite often. An ebook on beauty options would be cool to make, but I was also maybe thinking a podcast?!!?!! Whaaat? Who said that?! It's just an idea at the moment, but it keeps crossing my mind. I might just go for it. Who knows.

Work with brands

When I started this blog I used a lot of products from one specific place. This was primarily because I worked there. Yes these products are amazing and I continue to shop there, but I want to branch out now that I'm not around the same brands everyday. I would also like to state that while I did post mostly products from my workplace, all opinions did remain my own, I am always 100% honest in my reviews.

I would love to work with smaller brands that not many people have heard of yet and local peeps as well. Do you know of a brand that doesn't get much love but has an amazing product? Let me know, I'd love to check it out. Are you based in Louisiana and also obsessed with all things skin? Let's talk.

Save up for school

I love helping people achieve their skin goals. Yes, a skincare routine will help with that significantly, but what you put in your body can help as well! What holds me back in the nutrition department is my lack of certification, and I think nutrition school would help with that (duh). I don't plan on going back to school in 2018, but saving up for it is achievable.

Have more fun!

For the past two years I have been driving and working, and that's pretty much it. I'm exhausted. I'm in my twenties and I feel as if I'm in my eighties. This is not good. Since I'm moving I hope to have a little more time to actually enjoy my life and go out some more.

These are the things that have been on my mind so far on what I need to work on in 2018. I'm sure I'll think of a thousand more things as the year progresses, but I like these ideas as a starting point.

What are your goals for 2018? Did you accomplish anything this year that you're proud of? Let me know!
