Winter Skin Primers

Wow, my skin took a dry turn this winter. Louisiana doesn’t usually get that dry since it is pretty humid year round, but some days it was so cold I felt like I was putting moisturizer on every hour. I was keeping hydrating mists everywhere so I would always be in arms reach of hydration, and my standard cream/gel moisturizer was switched out for a heavy cream.

But what did that mean for my makeup routine?

I keep my makeup routine on the simple side. I like to let my complexion shine through sheer foundations and dewy highlighters, but dry skin is difficult to mask. That is why I like to use a skincare/primer hybrid under my foundation in colder months.

These have been my go tos lately and ever since I ran out of one I have been so sad! Who knew a product could be that good.

Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer*

Wow, I didhn’t think I could like a primer that much. I decided to take the plunge on this one during the last Sephora sale and it actually took me a while to use it. Mostly because it was so pretty. Finally, I decided to give it a try. When I initially finished the primer I was pretty meh. I mean, it was okay. But I didn’t realize how good it was until I was using other primers. It is so difficult to explain, but this primer did everything. It smoothed out whatever texture I had going on that day, it locked in moisture, and I could use it around my eyes as well. Could you ask for more?! I did think I ran out of this rather quickly but I decided it was still worth the price tag. Especially ever primer since hasn’t quite measured up when it comes to smoothing and hydrating.

Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Prism Cream**

Okay so this product is a little extra, but that’s kind of why I love it. This is my favorite luminous primer to layer under a natural or matte foundation. It is a little much when to wear with a dewy foundation since this primer will make you look like a dewy disco ball (in the best way). Sometimes when I put this on (you can put it on in certain areas you would like to highlight, or you can be like me and put it everywhere) I will just stare at myself. I mean, I look like a star! If you are looking for a dewy glow, even in the driest of months, this is for sure it.

Embryolisse 24-hour Miracle Cream*

So this is technically a moisturizer but it makes a great primer when I am in a pinch. When I first apply it it feels like a thin cream but it definitely has a grip making it a great primer. And I love cutting out steps in my routine. I am a lazy girl at heart. The bio on this product says it works as a makeup remover as well but I haven’t tried it yet. I am pretty sold on this as a primer for now though. Every time I travel this is in my bag.

What primers have you been loving lately? Anyone else have the dries skin ever right now?
