Beach Essentials

Every summer I often find myself in a dilemma. On one hand, I want to protect my skin from the sun. I don't use all this skincare for nothing after all. Fine lines and dark spots are easily avoided by simply avoiding the sun's harmful rays. Now on the other hand, I love being tan. Like, I love it. I am never more confident than when my body is completely bronzed, and self tanners just don't make the cut. Maybe it's the vitamin d, but I feel 1000% better when I have gotten some sun and some tan lines. I can't be the only one here!

My goal this year was to become a bronze goddess but also protect my skin, so I am going to break down what I usually bring to the beach with me and some new additions this year. What will actually happen I can't say for sure, but I am excited to try and will definitely keep you updated. I will probably add products as I find them, and I am on the lookout for a giant hat to keep my face protected, so if you have any recommendations let me know!

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen

I shouldn't have to say this, but bring sunscreen to the beach. If not to protect yourself from skin cancer and premature aging, do it so when you pass out on the beach you don't wake up fried to a crisp (We have all done it, no judgement. It sucks). I usually bring a ton of different options with me, but I will break it down to the essentials for now.

For my body, I like the Supergoop! SPF 50 sunscreen mousse. This stuff is light as air! And while I love the concept of sunscreen sprays, I hate it when the wind blows and you end up with half of it in your mouth. Gross. This mousse stays where you put it, and it does not take a ton of effort to apply.

As for my face, I get a little picky. I picked up this Pacifica Mineral Face Sunscreen with SPF 30, and I can't quite say if I love it yet, since I have not gone to the beach yet. I initially bought it because I liked the ingredient list. After swatching it at home, I noticed it definitely goes on white, but if I layer a really hydrating cream underneath it it absorbs pretty well. I don't plan on wearing this under makeup or using it as my everyday sunscreen, so I am not worrying too much about the texture or white cast, I just want my face protected in the sun. Hence why I pack another sunscreen to touch up with while I am out on the beach.

The AmorePacific Sunscreen Mist came in the sunscreen bag that I picked up during the Sephora Rouge sale. While I have used this spray before, it was a big reason why I bought the kit. That is a great sunscreen in a convenient little bottle! Also, touch ups are necessary. Just because you apply sunscreen before you go out in the sun does not mean you are fully protected all day.

I also bought a lip balm from Pacifica as well, which contains SPF 30! This stuff is great, and it smells amazing. There is nothing worse than sunburned lips. I haven't even gotten to the beach yet and I am so happy I bought this, although I guess the true test will be when I try it out in the sun.

Caramel Lotion

Okay so I just bought this, and I have not used it yet, but I wanted to share it with you first. This caramel lotion from Baja Bae is supposedly a natural tanning lotion that you can use in combination with SPF. It will make you darker, but you can also just use it as a tinted moisturizer or body perfecter. I want to try it out at the beach and see if I get have everything I want, a bronzey tan that is also protected from aging! Maybe I can have it all this year!

After Sun Masks (Not Pictured)

I feel like this is the biggest oversight when it comes to sun care. What you put on your face after you spend all day in the sun is just as important as what you put on it before. I remember the best idea I ever had was to bring a few sheet masks with me the last time I went to the beach, it felt like putting an ice pack on my face after each day. Amazing. Thankfully Sephora Collection came out with a sheet mask specifically for after sun exposure. How genius is that!? I am bringing one for every day I am at the beach. The best part? This mask has a piece for your neck as well!

I also always carry my Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Detox Mask since the jar since it comes with enough product to use all over your body. Bonus points if you keep it in the fridge for an extra cool treat.

So I know I will end up adding about ten more products to my beach bag this year, but I wanted to give you guys a starting point on the essentials for the beach. I will never go to the beach without sunscreen, but the Baja Bae lotion is definitely a new addition. If you ever have any must have products I want to know what they are! And if you would like a entire post on what I bring to the beach (things like sunglasses, coolers, etc) I can do that as well. Let me know!
